As part of our commitment to maintaining a trusted platform, Poplin has a two-step security check that all Laundry Pros are required to complete before taking their first order.
This article serves as a guide, providing clarity on the purpose of each check, step-by-step instructions, explanation of error messages, information on turn-around time and where to seek assistance or check the status of your background check.
Security Check Availability
When the systems sees that orders will soon become available to you, the Security Check in your Laundry Pro app will become enabled for completion. You'll get a notification for an order and when you log into your app, you'll be able to initiate the 2-step process of verifying your identity and completing a background check.
Note: You will only be able to accept new orders that are placed after your Security Check is fully completed and verified. You won't be eligible to accept the original order that unlocked your Security Check.
ID Verification through Stripe
The purpose of the ID Verification step is to ensure the authenticity and identity of our Laundry Pros. We want to make sure you're you! To get started, you'll need a valid government-issued photo ID document, preferably a driver's license, and a mobile device with a camera.
Here's how it works:
- Accept Privacy Policy Terms: Once you click “Continue” on the ID Verification step a new window will open asking you to accept Stripe’s privacy policy terms.
- Grant Camera Access: Upon granting Stripe and the Laundry Pro app access to your camera you will be prompted to take a picture of your government issued ID and snap a selfie.
- Verification Complete: Once verification is complete click “Done” and you’ll be redirected back to the Poplin Laundry Pro app homepage to start the next step in the security process, the background check.
The ID Verification process typically takes a few seconds to a few minutes to complete. However, in some cases, it may take longer depending on the volume of verifications being processed.

Background Check
After successfully completing the ID Verification process, the second step is the Background Check, conducted through our trusted background check partner. This step aims to ensure the safety of our community by screening for any relevant criminal records.
Here's what you need to do:

Grant Consent: Click "Begin" on the Background Check screen in the Poplin Laundry Pro app, and a new window will open, asking for your consent to allow to run a background check.
You will be asked to provide the following information:- Full name (including middle name)
- Date of birth
- Social Security Number
- Current zip code
- Phone number
- Email address
- Background Check Complete: Once you reach the "Thank you" screen, click "Done" to close the window.
- Status Updates: Our background check partner will keep you informed about the status of your background check via email. You can also check your status here: Candidate Portal
The turnaround time for most background checks is typically quick, ranging from a few seconds to 5 business days. However, please note that certain factors, such as the depth of the search, geographical location, or county courthouse operations, may cause delays.
Rest assured, we value your time and privacy. We have partnered with trusted authorities to ensure the confidentiality of your personal information throughout the process.
Note for Laundry Pros in many areas of the country:
When completing the background check, you will be asked to pay for your background check. While we have negotiated a very low rate for the background check, there is a potential that even though you pay for your background check, you may be in an area with a high volume of Laundry Pros and you may not receive new orders immediately. Please be patient — orders do eventually come!
